RANCHI: The water resource department and municipal corporation claim that there will be no scarcity of water this summer. All parts of the city will receive ample supply of water. The municipal corporation is taking special measures to ensure that the distribution of surface water is sufficient. Municipal Commissioner Prashant Kumar said, "The situation is substantially better compared to last year. The executive engineer has been instructed to plug all the leakages and complete the linking of pipelines in all the areas before summer starts. There are also plans to extend pipelines in areas which were not connected so far. We have also instructed the electricity department to cut off electricity during the water supply to prevent the illegal pumping of water. Areas without borewells and pipelines will be provided with water tankers."The four main dams- Hatia, Rukka, Gonda and Kanke which provide water to Ranchi and the surrounding areas are also operating at their full capacity. Recent constructions in the dam's surface will ensure that water is not lost due to contamination. While the water level in Hatia Dam is 22 feet, in Gonda it is close to 19 feet. The Rukka dam water level is peaking at 24 feet, while Kanke Dam is also functioning close to capacity.
